As a working mom and a nurse you wait until the last minute to register your child for school. You are hoping to get to the school before work of after work because getting the time off during the week is almost impossible. If you have to get the time off you have to explain to people what your issues are which only adds to the anxiety.
First there is the list of school supplies. How can one child need so much stuff, you wonder? Going from store to store, taking your child with you, because you want to make sure everything is 'perfect' and you do want to spend some quality time with your child. Being the good mom that you are, you feel the need to stop for a burger and fries as well, to treat your child and your self. Can you remember going with your mom to get school supplies was it filled with anxiety for her, you are wondering?
Once the school supplies are purchased, now you have to go through the anxiety melt down of buying the new clothes for school. Will they look alright, will they fit your childs' peer pressure situation? Do you see more stress and anxiety building here? I most certainly do!
Talking about clothes 'fitting', you're hoping that the clothes you buy in September will still fit in November. Okay, by now you have got to feel the increased anxiety.
By the end of the ordeal your child is tired and irritable, and like most children, not really looking forward to going back to school anyway. You also wonder if your child has absorbed some of your anxiety and stress.
Then to make matters worse it dawns on you, that you have two more children to prepare for school, one in Junior High and the other in Senior High. Oh my, when will this stress and anxiety end?
Probably never, because you have not been gotten in control of your anxiety! You do have the power to control your feelings of stress and anxiety. It does take time and a bit of effort on your part, but the process is worth it, because your worth it!
